Will Co Champs
Wednesday, October 5 2022 - Will Co Girls ChampionshipChannahon Community Park hosts 3 of the next 4 meets for the girls this season, and that got kicked off with a highlight meet on the season, the Will County Girls Championship on Monday night.
The evening started with the frosh/soph race. This race was the true definition of team. Selah Fornelli and Bridget Kemp went right to the front with visions of victory in their minds. They stayed strong up in the top 3 until about the halfway point. Both hit rough patches but were able to fight for their team and earn 8th and 11th place overall. The pack came storming in next with Sylvia Magemeneas and Lydia Velazquez close in behind her. Alyssa Link rounded out the scoring. Despite some injury and rough patches in the race those girls hung tough and stay strong throughout. The rest of the team in that race came storming in with PR City! Kayla DeFano, Cyan Bradley, Isabelle Reyes, and Marissa Jacobs all ran season best times! As a team we finished 2nd overall, thanks to a 6th runner tie breaker. The true indication of team running.
The varsity girls were next. Hannah Kilday was aggressive from the gun as she hit the halfway point in 13th place, but continued to move up well and finished 11th overall and was able to break the 20 minute mark for the first time ever. Carrie Kraft and Cassie Salkas were the next Wildcats across the line, as they used a steady pace throughout the race to run big time season best times. Alexis Pacholski is starting to get back into strong race form after some illness, she ran her best race since early in the season and that confidence on this course will play a big role moving forward this season. Danielle Dybas rounded out the scoring with a season best time! Despite not feeling her best Allison Behounek ran tough for her teammates. Paige Hart finished up the varsity race with over a 1 minute season best time!
The final race of the night brought out the biggest crowd with Bridget Kemp putting on the Wildcat mascot for the second year in a row…and for the second year in a row the tail tripped up BK, but she was all smiles and laughing as she cross the line of a great event.
The girls are back in action with the boys on Friday at the Lakes Twilight meet.
