Sunday, May 7 2023 - Bill Jackson InvitationalThe last tune up before Championship season for the Wildcats was the Bill Jackson Invitational, on a breezy beautiful night. The meet featured some very strong performances across the board.
The distance crew had a great night from start to finish. The night started with some big PRs from the 3200 crew. Diego Arce ran a 30 second PR in the B flight. Ubaldo Rodriguez followed up with a PR of his own, running 10:25 to PR by 25 seconds and finished 6th overall in the A flight of the 3200. The 800 crew kept things rolling with a nice welcome back to racing by Harlan Matson, in his first race in a month he took a big swing with 300 to go in the 800 (B flight) and took the lead through the final turn, the legs weren’t there to close it out, but he did come away with nearly a 2 second PR. Tyler Schick was next on the PR train, his 800 was very consistent as he ran close to even splits to run a 2:02.11 and finished 5th place in the A flight. The 1600 guys really had a great day with Luke Adair taking 2nd in the C flight with a new PR of 4:45. Arnold Arce had one of the best races of the night in a great battle with DGS as he ran a 10 second PR to finish 2nd in the B flight (4:31).
The field event crew came up with some solid points for the team with Christian Martin finishing 4th in the A flight of the shot put and then Jesse Perez finishing 4th in the B flight of the shot put. Kedan Strickland came away with a 5th place finish in the triple jump. The young high jumpers had two PRs as Cobey McGregory cleared 1.60 for the first time and Bryson Shoemaker cleared 1.54.
Bryan Underwood had a big day in the 300H as he lead for about 280 meters, he was passed late but still managed a new PR and a big confidence boosting race with his 3rd place finish in the A flight. Gavin Schnowske had a great closing 100 in the 400 to break 54 for the first time (53.83). Nigel Osei Asare and Alex Haberkamp both ran strong races in the open 100 to snag some new PRs. Michael Kabore ran a strong race as well in his 200 to run a new PR. The 4x400 finished out the night with 3 guys running lifetime relay split PRs and the team running a season best by 3 seconds.
The Wildcats head to West Aurora on Wednesday for the SPC Championship.
