A Chance to Compete

Monday, September 25 2023 - MacNider Invitational Schaumberg

Cross country is about competing, no one course is the same, the conditions change from week to week, but the opportunities to push yourself and learn how to handle discomfort remains the same. Saturday at the MacNider Invitational the Wildcats had a chance to race on a warm day over a hilly 5K course. The day did not results in many personal bests but did have some strong races and many chances to learn and grow as a runner.

The varsity girls were led by Hannah Kilday who finished in 13th place and ran the fastest 5K time in school history. Another big bright spot was Alexis Pacholski who finished as the team’s 4th runner in a season best for 3 miles.

The varsity boys were up next. Ubaldo Rodriguez stepped up in a big way and led the teams as the top finisher. Ubaldo came through 3 miles just 4 seconds off his best time. The top 4 guys were only separated by 15 seconds, the power of the pack is something that can pay off in a big way.

The open girls race saw an aggressive run from Sophie Salkas and Emily Fanning leading the way. They both came through 3 miles just off their best times.

The open boys were led by Stephan Cameron who ran a season best time for 3 miles.

On a day that was warmer than last year, we had many athletes who races MacNider last year, and we can see improvement from last year to this year.
