City Championship Recap

Thursday, September 1 2022 - Plainfield City Championship

It’s a honor to be a district that has such strong cross country programs. The annual City Championship is always a great way to get the competitive season going.

With one race under our belts, this was a great chance to see improvement as we grow accustomed to racing. Nearly everyone ran faster! Colin Elder and Marissa Jacobs both improved their times by over 4 minutes. Half the team improved by over a minute!

The girls teams both placed 2nd to North. Frosh/Soph was led by Sylvia Magemeneas and Lydia Velazquez who both earned All-City recognition. At the varsity level for the girls pack running was the theme as the top girls all stuck together and ran for each other. Three athletes earned All-City: Hannah Kilday, Alexis Pacholski, and Bridget Kemp. As the full varsity squad gets healthy in the next few weeks the momentum from the TEAM will be very exciting to watch.

The boys finished 3rd at both levels. The frosh/soph were led by Ubaldo Rodriguez who ran nearly a :30 lifetime best to finish 6th overall. A great sign for Ubaldo as he had a late build up this summer. The varsity boys took 3rd to very good South and North teams, but had a strong performance with the top 4 guys running within 20 seconds of each other.

The night was all positive takeaways with momentum continuing to build as we prepare for Saturday at the Wildcat Invitational.
