Championship Season

The SPC is arguably the best track and field conference in the state of Illinois. It is an honor to get to compete against the best, but it is also a grind. The Wildcats get that honor and had some strong performances on Wednesday at the SPC Championships. The big highlights on the night were the two athletes who earned All-Conference Recognition. Luke Adair ran a tough race in very hot conditions for 3200 meters. He battled hard the last 3 laps to hold on to a top 6 position to earn his All-Conference honor. Less than 5 minutes later, Sophomore, Jakub Banka, came through with a clutch final jump in triple jump to move into 6th place and earn All-Conference. The frosh/soph team was led by Na’Varyian Junior who had a great day, finishing 2nd overall in the 400, and 4th in the 200. He also led of the varsity 4x100, who finished 5th overall.

Outside of the top places that the team earned, personal records were falling all over the facility. 21 different athletes combined for 35 PRs. Two athletes PR’d in all 3 events that competed in, and both of those guys were freshman. Stanford Moss was a part of the 4x100, and 4x400 relays at the frosh/soph level, PRing in both those relay legs, he also ran a PR in the open 400. Emiliano Ramirez ran all 3 frosh/soph sprint relays, running PR legs on each one. Eight different athletes ran 2 PRs on the night: Grady Bartz in both throws, Greg Togle in the 4x100, and the 200, Joey Des Garennes in the 4x800 and the 4x400, Diego Arce in the 4x800 and the open 800, Cam McGaughy in the 4x100 and the 100, Torrance Freeman in the 4x100 and the 200, Kalib Smith in the 4x100 and the 100, Na’Varyian Junior in the 400 and 200, and Christian Ndegoe in the 300H and the 4x400.

Nathan Reyes had a PR in the discus, Sam Napoleon and Spencer Kazak both PR’d in the frosh/soph 1600, Aden Veljacic PR’d in the 4x800, Jake Michel PR’d in the 300H, Ubaldo Rodriguez PR’d in the 4x400, John Kulekowskis PR’d in the 4x200, Tyler Weir ran a PR in the 400, and Brayden Lane ran a PR in the 400.

At the SPC Indoor Championship the Wildcats scored points in only 3 events, at the Outdoor Championship the guys scored in 6 different events. And the frosh/soph had some very strong performances scoring 5 events.

IHSA Sectionals is up next with a chance to qualify for State on the line.
