Benet Invite Recap
Saturday, October 6 2018 - Benet InvitationalThe freshman have had a great run the last two weeks. Last week they took first overall at the 38 team Joe Mortimer Invite. They were led by a 4, 5, 6, 7 finish from Aaron, Cam, Paul, and Mike. Alex Rojo finished out the scoring for the freshman. The freshman continued their dominance this week with another overall victory at the Lockport F/S meet. The guys were led by our first invite individual winner, Aaron Wyckoff, and then followed by Mike (3), and Cam, Paul, and Alex (7, 8, 9). Jacob Obman also finished in the medals 14th.
The upperclassmen finally got a chance to get back to racing at Benet. Luckily the weather cooperated enough to get the races in before the storms rolled in. The meet pulled a quick schedule change on race morning, pushing varsity to the earlier 9:30 slot and f/s back to 10:30. We also pulled a last-minute lineup change. Freshman Kyle Schick filled in to round out the varsity squad. Kyle came up big running over a minute PR and not faltering once running in a varsity race as a freshman. Austin Emrath led the rest of the team finishing 8th overall. Dean Eubanks and Ryan Bonomo ran some of their best races of the season battling their way up from a rough first mile picking off lots of guys along the way. Thanks to a gutty effort from Tommy Adelmann and Javy Garcia to round out our top 5 the team finished 2nd to a very good Benet team. The guys ran a :43 1-5 split, the best on the year and a good indication of what is hopefully to come in the next few weeks.
The frosh/soph race had some great performances as well. The freshman crew ran as a great pack once again. Paul led the charge early pressing the pace and bringing the rest of the guys with him. Aaron and Cam both moved up really well late. A Ro moved up well late in the race also helping to secure 3rd place finish.
The open race had a huge number of PRs. Jayson Matula led the way with some very aggressive racing that resulted in a 36 second PR, to run 19:00. The race of the day may have come from Patrick Kacena who ran a 2:00+ PR! Nick Ruiz, Alec Ruiz, Diego, and Justin all PR’d as well.
A few other notes from races. A big race from Henry Matson who ran his final mile his fastest with splits of (7:10, 7:20, 7:07)!
Connor Kou Kou ran his first race of the year and was not afraid of the stage, he got out with confidence and ended up joining a pack of our open race, great job Connor.
Next up is our Conference meet on Friday.
