Victory at Lakes Sunset
Friday, October 8 2021 - Lakes TwilightBack to back nights of racing. Wednesday night at Lockport with the frosh/soph crew and then Thursday at Lakes with Varsity. It was a good two day stretch for the Wildcats.
On Wednesday night the young guns showed up and ran 5 personal bests and took home 3 medals. Leading the way was a strong race from Ubaldo Rodriguez who took 5th overall. Tyler Weir ran like a man on a mission sticking tough with Ubaldo for the first two miles and then battling strong the last mile to run a 31 second personal best. Luke Adair ran a great race PRing and breaking 21 for the first time. Justin Matula continues his epic stretch at the end of the season to follow up his 2 and half minute PR from last week to run another minute and a half faster and nearly break 21 minutes. Gabe Ibarra ran a strong race that resulted in a personal best and Logan Fox had a return to racing that resulted in a PR of over a minute. In the sophomore race Arnold Arce came away with an 11th place finish to earn a medal.
On Thursday the long trip up north to Lakes High School was well worth it as the guys ran a very strong team effort. The format switched from flights to a normal varsity race due to weather concerns but that didn’t stop the guys from running a great team race. The team took the overall victory in the varsity race led by Paul De Avila taking first overall. Paul took a smart approach letting a few guys led through about halfway and then taking over from there to run away with the victory. Mike Forbear was battling some hamstring tightness but didn’t let that deter him from fighting for his team to hold on to a 3rd place finish. Aaron Wyckoff moved up well the second half to take 4th overall. Alex Rojo was next in finishing 7th overall running just about 15 seconds off his PR in soggy conditions. The team scored 30 points to win by over 50 points. The depth of the Wildcats was on display as all 9 guys were in before any other team had 5 across the line.
The open race was a string of highlighter yellow at the front. Tanner Torri outkicked Patrick Kacena to win and help Patrick run a season best time. Michael Kawa was 3rd. Richie Ruane ran a season best to finish 5th. Josh Kodura also had a top 10 finish in the open race. Asher Bradley came away with a season best breaking 19 for the first time this season.
Championship season is upon us now. Next Friday we will be at Channahon Community Park to compete at the SPC Championship.
