SPC Indoors

Saturday, March 16 2024 - SPC Indoor Championship

Getting to compete in the SPC means you have to be a state qualifying caliber athlete to be in the mix. This year’s indoor championship was no different. The Wildcats put together some very strong performances in the penultimate week of the indoor season.

Adrian Washington had an epic night. After a smooth qualifying run in the 55, he had a slow start in the long jump before busting out 2 jumps in a row over 6.80. He won and set a meet record of 6.91. He then stepped up with a big PR (and 2nd fastest in PHS history) to take 3rd in the 55 (6.58). He led off the 4x200 relay with a 23.1 split to hand off in the lead. And then he finished his night with a 3rd place finish (and new PR) in the 200 (23.14).

Tyler Weir was another huge highlight on the night. He stepped up in a big way. He led off our 4x800 in a new relay PR split, he then came back with a nearly 1 second lifetime PR in the 400 (indoors or outdoors) 53.98, but his night wasn’t finished he ended his night with a PR split in the 4x400 (53.5)

Luke Adair had a great race in the 3200, with a freshly shaved head (St. Baldrick’s Day). He put himself in the mix of the first section and held tough, to run a lifetime PR of about 3 seconds.

Curtery Clark continues his improvement in the horizontal jumps and he notched another PR in the triple jump.

Adrian Castillo joined Tyler Weir with a PR split in the 4x800, after a rocky start to the season, Adrian has been on a tear lately.

Jake Michel got in on the PR action with a PR split in the 4x400.

Should out to the 4x200 who did not run a season best, but finished 5th in one of the toughest conferences in the state. Earlier in the week the injury bug hit one of the key members of the relay, but Scott Freishlag stepped up in a big way and ran a strong leg to hold on to the lead that Adrian, Nigel Osei Asare and Torrance Freeman built up on the previous 3 legs.

Next week looks like the team will have a split squad with some athletes at Proviso and some at Top Times.
