End of the Indoor Season
Sunday, March 24 2024 - Proviso East Pirate ClassicSpring break for the Wildcats always means the end of the indoor season and the transition to the outdoor season. Saturday was the final meets of the indoor season. We had most of our team at Proviso for the Pirate Classic, and Christian Martin headed down to Prep Top Times. Christian was supposed to be joined by Adrian Washington, but an injury during the week meant he was flying solo.
Senior newcomer Ari Williams got the meet going with a strong start in the field events. Ari bounced back and forth between high jump and long jump, where he set new PRs in both events. As Ari continues to learn how to execute those events he will see huge leaps (pun intended) in the jumps. Curtery Clark got in on the action with a field event PR as well, as he unleased a big breakthrough jump in the triple jump.
The f/s 4x800 relay got the running events going with some breakout splits. Guilian Salas rocked a PR to anchor that team. Guilian stepped up to fill a role in the f/s 4x200 as well, and then came back with a big PR split on the f/s 4x400. Always love when an athlete competes in all 3 indoor relays.
The f/s 4x200 had Curtery Clark, Geo Ramirez, and Talan Sihalath joined Guilian Salas with PR splits.
The distance crew saw some nice races. Tyler Schick was just off his outdoor PR in the 3200, with a 4th place finish. Harlan Matson ran a PR in the 3200. Ezequiel Ocegueda had nearly a 10 second PR in the 800 (2:45, not bad for someone who ran 36 minutes for 3 miles in the fall for XC).
Christian Ndegoe ran a solid 400 to set a lifetime PR. Kalib Smith also got in on the PR with a PR in the 200 hurdles.
Christian Martin did not throw his best, but did get valuable learning experience with his performance at Top Times.
The Wildcats are off for few weeks, as we regroup, get healthy and get ready for the outdoor season.
