Wildcat Invitational Recap

Sunday, September 5 2021 - Plainfield Central (Wildcat Invitational)

Hosting a meet you always want to perform at your best. The Wildcat Invitational was a great chance for the team to do that.

The frosh/soph crew kicked things off with a dominate victory led by Harlan Matson and his individual win, running a 38 second PR to take the title. He was followed closely by Tyler Schick who ran a 27 second PR in 3rd. The team put 5 in the top 13 with Arnold Arce (30 second PR), Raymond Churchill (1 minute PR), and Ubaldo Rodriguez all finishing in the medals.

Varsity had a great battle with DeKalb. The Barbs came out victorious with a strong second half of the race, but it was a great fight, a 2nd overall finish to a strong team like DeKalb is a step in the right direction. Pack running and running for each other ruled the day for the Wildcat varsity. Mike Forbear broke 16 for the first time and finished 3rd overall. Depth was on display as well, the team was the only school with 6 medalists. Following Mike were Paul DeAvila, Aaron Wyckoff, Cam Mulyk (10 second PR), Alex Rojo (6 second PR), and Kyle Schick.

The open race was a long line of highlighter yellow at the front as the Wildcats dominated with the first 5 finishers, 7 of the first 8 and 11 of the top 20. Jayson Matula took the race out hard the first 500 and never looked back cruising to a 10 second victory. Henry Matson just outkicked Jason Zigmant for 2nd. Patrick Kacena and Michael Kawa finished out the clean sweep through 5. Other medalists were Josh Kodura, Richie Ruane, Aiden Fannin, Asher Bradley, Hunter Porn and Luke Konow.

Of the 60 medals given out on the boys’ side the Wildcats took home 22 of them.
