Senior Night

Wednesday, September 29 2021

Senior Night is a great chance to celebrate the remarkable group of young men that have left such a strong impact on this team. The 11 athletes we honored on Tuesday night were no different. Mike Forbear, Paul De Avila, Aaron Wyckoff, Alex Rojo, Kyle Schick, Jayson Matula, Jason Zigmant, Henry Matson, Cam Mulyk, Patrick Kacena, and Hunter Porn thank you for what you have meant to this program. Your impact will be felt for years to come.

Dual meets can present an unique opportunity during the cross country season. Last year our schedule was all dual meets, this year we have not had one until Plainfield East on Tuesday. A smaller field gives athletes a great look into how they can shape their own race plan, our goal for Tuesday was compete hard and try to race the second half faster than the first half. And we had some great execution on the day.

Paul DeAvila ran a closing 5:04 mile to take the overall victory. Alex Rojo went out 20 seconds slower than he has all year and was able to pick it up and close the race with a 6 second PR, a big confidence boost to know he can run negative splits to a successful result in the future. Jayson Matula and Jason Zigmant both led the way through the first mile and were able to hang tough to secure season bests by a few seconds. Henry Matson ran a 18 second season best and just 2 seconds off a lifetime PR. Michael Kawa ran a lifetime best and broke 18 minutes for the first time. Josh Kodura was able to break 19 for the first time, smashing his PR by 27 seconds. Luke Konow and Aiden Fannin both came away with PRs on the day with smart racing. And Freshman Tyler Weir put together a very strong second half of the race to PR by 50 seconds to break 20 for the first time.

The conditions we a little warm and often Tuesday afternoon duals are not the ideal time to PR, but the team showed up and made it known that any time you put on the Wildcat uniform you are able to do something special.

Also, a big shout out to Patrick Kacena who followed up his race with a victory at Mr. Pomcat!
