Macnider Recap

Sunday, September 26 2021 - Schaumberg McNider Invitational

The Macnider Invitational brought a great chance for the team to see how we stack up against some of the best in our conference with Oswego and Minooka both in attendance. It was a day with only two races a varsity and an open race.

The varsity had a solid day with strong races from the guys. Alex Rojo had a nice bounce back week after a rough race in Peoria, he came through 3 miles enroute to 5K with tying his 3 mile PR. Jayson Matula capitalized on a chance to race varsity as well. Paul, Mike and Aaron were all award winners to help lead the team to a 4th place finish.

The open race was the Jason Zigmant show as he ran the best race of his career. He stuck on the leader and didn’t fade until about 2.5 miles. But his grit led him to coming through 3 miles 30 seconds faster than his 3 mile PR and he finished only 5 seconds off that PR for the full 5K. The other massive highlight was Brogan Terry who continues to make massive improvements. He came through 3 miles over a minute faster than his lifetime PR for 3 miles, and finished the 5K :27 faster than his 3 mile PR! Hard work has paid off in a big way for Brogan. Asher Bradley also ran a 5K time that was faster than his season best for 3 miles, coming through 3 miles :39 faster and then finishing the race :05 faster than his 3 mile PR.

The thing that we talked about most after the race is having the confidence to continue to carry your pace through miles 2 and 3, that will be the big focus for the rest of the season.
