Dual Meet Schedule Kicks Off at PEHS

Saturday, August 29 2020

Saturday morning cross country, nothing better. The Wildcats took advantage of a chance to race as they kicked off their season against Plainfield East in the first of the new dual meet format for this season.

The varsity team took an aggressive first mile to put a great pack at the front of the race. Paul De Avila and Mike Forbear battled for the individual win, as Paul pulled away in the last half mile to win and set a new course record at the new course lay out at PEHS. Forbear ran a strong race for second. It was a stream of Wildcats after that as Aaron Wyckoff, Alex Rojo, and Kyle Schick finished out the scoring. The final score was 15-50 as the Wildcats go to 1-0 to start the dual meet schedule in the SPC East. Newcomer to the team Julian Porro dropped nearly 3 minutes from his time trial 3 mile from 2 weeks ago.

The frosh/soph team picked up right where the varsity left off. Freshman Harlan Matson took the team out with an aggressive first mile, he was followed closely by Tanner Torri who took over the lead at the 2 kilometer mark. Torri continued to build on his lead and took the individual win. Matson hung tough for second, followed by fellow freshman Tyler Schick, who dropped 2 minutes from his time trial time. Asher Bradley was next in; a Bengal broke up the perfect score as Michael Kawa finished 6th overall as the final scorer for the Wildcats. The frosh/soph crew starts the year 1-0 as well in the SPC East with a score of 16-43.  Freshman Neil Lemke may have had the race of the day as he moved up incredibly well the second half of the race, passing nearly 30% of the field. Sophomore Luke Konow who had a monster summer started his season off right with a lifetime PR of about 10 seconds.

Before the frosh/soph race Coach Simon from East was sharing how she had seen Wildcats running the streets all summer, and what a strong group of dedicated runners they are.

The Wildcats are back in action Wednesday in an SPC crossover against Oswego East.
